With about 500 wood, you can effectively wall spam a decent section of the map, completely messing up the pathing of larger cavalry where as your smaller skirmishers and settlers can easily navigate the mess of walls. Now we aren’t talking about simple walling off sections to defend from attackers. How you ask? The key is in the settler’s pesky ability to build walls. So you like ranged units but hate it when big bad evil cavalry come along and rapes them?ġ5 Archers vs 15 Lancers… Archers get owned hard.ġ5 Archers + 5 settlers vs 15 Lancers = Lancers get owned hard! ENRAGED SETTLERS WIELDING TORCHES!-ģ)Settlers can multiply the effectiveness of ranged units ten fold!* …swarm in and destroy the enemy TC in a rebellious rage, while the enemy’s army is preoccupied with my army. PEACEFUL SETTLERS GOING ABOUT THEIR DAILY WORK. In this picture, these settlers that were innocently mining gold and chopping wood nearby just a few minutes ago… Just put him to work while your military is idle. Not only do you get an uber unit that can easily have more HP than musketeers (and even some cavalry lol!) you get a unit that make back its cost…literally. Now 100 food may seem a lot, but you get so much in return. I now present you undisputable proof that the settler is by far the best unit in AoE3 and quite possibly any game ever made. Well, these players are just the unenlightened. Most players just mass produce settlers and task them on a resource and forget about them. With all the concerns over which unit will be overpowered in AoE3, I feel obliged to present you with what I consider to be without a doubt the most uber unit to ever grace your RTS screen, since the Ghost from Starcraft.
